A Letter To My Thighs
Posted on August 24, 2010 · Leave a CommentDear Thighs,
I have some concerns I’d like to bring to your attention. I’m sure if we work together, we can straighten everything out and get back to normal in no time.
I’ll start by saying that I’m perplexed at the decline in your relationship to one another. Lately, you’ve been rubbing each other the wrong way and encroaching on each others space. Is it boredom at work? I see you together watching a lot of TV, but is that truly QUALITY time spent? I know you both like to chill at The Village Swimming Pool … but I haven’t seen you actually swim laps in ages! You two used to love to swim and it gave you a healthy activity to share together. What’s happened?
I’ve noticed your routine at Health & Fitness Center has come to an end, which is troubling considering it’s open until 10 on weeknights and has all your favorite state-of-the-art equipment. Let me ask you this; When was the last time you went for a jog together on The Village Jogging Trails? Months? And what? No Tennis this year???
Maybe it’s this summer heat that has you feeling tired and listless and I understand that – but the reality is, you two are NOT the finely tuned machines you once were and I can really tell the difference. Your inactivity is affecting your appearance and your ability to stay energized for a full day of work! Something has got to give!
In an effort to be helpful and point you in a healthier direction, I’ve taken it upon myself to gift you with something I think you’ll both like. It’s called, Top 10 Thigh Exercises and trust me, Ladies … if these exercises don’t get your relationship back on track, I truly don’t know what will. Everything you need can be found at the Fitness Center or just stay in the apartment if you would rather. What matters is that you work together to restore the balance and the right amount of personal space you once had in your relationship.
Listen, I lean on you both for support. I’ll do everything in my power to help you be stronger and healthier as a couple.
Love always,
T

Your Money: Stretch Fabric Softener Like a Rubber Band
Posted on August 2, 2010 · Leave a CommentBecause I’m the quintessential tightwad, I enjoy telling you about ways to save your hard-earned dough. In a previous post titled, YOUR WALLET: Have a Squeaky CLEAN Apartment on a Budget, I disclosed the joy and savings found in BAKING SODA. Tickled myself silly, I did … and why? Because using baking soda literally saves you pennies on the dollar and it cleans almost everything … much to the chagrin of Mr. Clean.
Well, Baking Soda isn’t the only cheap and easy product that does as well (if not better) than the name brand stuff. VINEGAR is another miracle worker than can save oodles of cute little coins with president’s faces on them.
As a FABRIC SOFTENER, you’ll find vinegar does the trick. I KNOW WHAT YOU ARE THINKING. Ew… el stinko. But hear me out – this is good stuff!
Start with a jug of vinegar and add about 24(ish) drops of your favorite essential oil like Lavender. Add more if you want and then use about a quarter cup of this concoction in the rinse cycle. If you prefer a more pure approach, stick with the vinegar and add 1/8 cup of Baking Soda for a fresh, soft result.
If you just HATE the vinegar idea, (and I certainly understand your hesitation) that’s fine and dandy. No hard feelings. We can still hang out and do laundry together sometime. But don’t give up on me … there are other ways to stretch your dollar by stretching your favorite name brand fabric softener.
Try soaking a wash cloth or a rag in full strength liquid softener. Then wring it out thoroughly and lay it flat to dry. (Don’t skip that part – drying it keeps the rag from leaving stains on clean clothing.) Once it’s nice and dried out, toss that puppy in the dryer like one of those over priced dryer sheets and see what happens. Use it again and again – as many as 12+ times – before re-soaking and drying! You’ll find this will stretch out your bottle of softener considerably leaving you with extra cash for much more exciting things!
There are lots of other ways to SAVE MONEY on FABRIC SOFTENERS. How about YOU? Do you have any tips to share?
Messy Playtime is Healthy Playtime!

Kids will be the first to tell ya: Water PLUS dirt equals no end of thrilling fun! How else could a kid experience The Mudslides of Madness, the Quick-Sands of Death or the Raging Rivers of Revenge?
But sadly, just when a kid learns the tricks of maneuvering through the Sludge of Despair, we parents step in and botch up the entire excellent adventure. And why? Because we are utterly and entirely too worried about the stains on the clothing. What party-poopers.
We’re parents. It’s our job to keep law and order. Therefore, we govern and direct our kids right into perfectly pristine play. But what if our efforts to keep order and direct activities is actually COUNTER productive?
Award-winning childcare author, Dr. Michele Borba says, “We’ve always known that kids and play are just a natural combo. But new research also shows that letting kids engage in self-directed play has immense value for their social, emotional, cognitive and physical growth.”
It’s a fact: When we allow self-directed play, the kids and the clothes are going to get dirty. They ARE. Sometimes, the clothes are going to get RUINED beyond what any stain remover can repair. So we have to decide. Are we willing to foster creativity and physical dexterity at the risk of some dirt?
Self-directed IS messy play … so we parents are just going to have to make a psychological adjustment on this one. Since the ONLY real negative to self-directed play is the possible dirt and mess, maybe it’s time to plan a trip 10 minutes up the street to Kid Swap Consignment. If we arm our kids with gently used play clothes, they’ll be much freer to fight the dragons found in the Mud Mountains of Misery!
Go ahead … head out to Kid Swap Consignment and snag some expendable clothing!

Posted on July 22, 2010 · Leave a Comment
Dallas is home to a new taco hot-spot in its Lakewood neighborhood.
Good 2 Go Taco has been at its location off of North Buckner in Dallas, Texas for almost a year now after opening its new location on August 20th, 2009.
Run by two chefs, Colleen O’Hara and Jeana Johnson, Good 2 Go Taco offers their customers a different menu everyday. It just depends on what recipe Johnson has pop into her that day and the local agriculture available for her disposal.
The price is right at just $3.50 a piece serving breakfast and lunch Tuesday- Sunday. Breakfast is served from 7 am – noon and then the restaurant rolls right into lunch until 3 pm.
While they may not have an everyday menu, the chefs post the day’s fare on their Facebook page for those eaters that like to plan ahead.
Offering at least one vegetarian taco, Good 2 Go Taco has something for everybody.
Here are a few examples of what you might find on their chalkboard menu when you go in for breakfast or lunch:
Breakfast:
- Chuckwagon- Beef chili, cornbread, sweet potato and eggs with cheddar cheese
- Heck Raiser- Mexican Chorizo sausage, red pepper, onions, red beans, rice and eggs
Lunch:

- Chaaty Kathy- Braised chicken, lentils and quinoa
- La Vaca Loca- Steakhouse fare in the palm of your hand-grilled flank steak, potato with poblano gratin.
